Cleaning of water tanks at colleges, varsities ordered.
PESHAWAR -- The Higher Education Department has issued directives regarding cleaning and chlorination of water facilities in the colleges and universities throughout the province.
Commerce Education and Management Sciences' director general has instructed 32 government colleges of the Commerce and Management Sciences for sanitation of water tanks, chlorination of reservoirs, checking and replacement of pipes and installation of water filters within seven days, said an official statement issued here.
Similarly, the director colleges issued instructions to 18 heads of the Joint Management Councils throughout the province for implementation in 211 colleges of the province. The measures include cleaning and overhauling of water tanks, checking the water sample through Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research or any other authorised laboratory, ensuring provision of drinking water, replacement of pipes and chlorination of reservoirs at colleges and hostels.
The vice-chancellors of the public sector universities have also been given a plan of action to be completed till 24th of the ongoing month.
The plan includes inspection of water supply lines and replacement in case of rusting besides chlorination of water tanks.
According to Higher Education Secretary Zafar Ali Shah, these steps were being taken to prevent health-related issues rising due to consumption of contaminated water.
'Water-borne diseases are common and can be prevented by taking certain basic measures. These steps will ensure a healthy environment for students in the province,' he said.
