Clean and save.

Clean and save. How do you help clean up the Earth and save your office money at the same time? The Colorado Society of CPAs, Englewood, does it by recycling paper, aluminum cans, and glass, and by using recycled paper for copies and scratch pads.

In honor of Earth Day 1990, CSCPA started providing bins at each staffer's desk so that recyclable paper could be sorted from other trash. The society also placed receptacles for aluminum cans and glass containers in the employee kitchen. Within the first three months of the effort, the society calculates it "saved" 13 trees and enough aluminum to keep a 100-watt light bulb in operation for 329 days, 24 hours a day. It also collected $80 in recycling refunds, donated to a local charity.

The next stage of the program, using recycled paper products, has allowed the society to spend $141 less each month on copy paper. The group saves money on yellow legal pads as well by using recycled versions. For information, call CSCPA, (303) 773-2877.
