Clean and Green Punjab campaign; PHA plants saplings at G.T.Road.

RAWALPINDI -- Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA) Rawalpindi under 'Clean and Green Punjab' campaign on Tuesday planted 1200 saplings at four kilometers long median here at G.T.Road near Yusra College.

On the occasion, Minister of State for Communication Murad Saeed was chief guest while Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) Jawad Rafique, Chairman PHA Asif Mahmood, Director General PHA Rawalpindi Saif Anwar Jappa, PHA officers and citizens were also present.

The DG PHA briefed the guests about the projects of the Authority.

DG PHA informed that under the plantation campaign, 50,000 saplings would be planted in the Rawalpindi region. Special PHA camps are being set up at all parks to provide free saplings to the citizens, he added.

He said, soon banners and posters would be displayed at important city points in this regard.

The Minister addressing the participants said that 'Clean and Green Pakistan' campaign would be made a success and the Forests Department and PHA are our partners.

He said the citizens including male and female students should come forward to play their role to make the campaign a success in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Due to effective awareness campaigns, the trend of planting saplings is increasing and the citizens have started playing their due role, he added.

Maximum area would be tried to bring under forest cover which is basic requirement to overcome environmental degradation, he added.

He said that it is need of the hour to increase the green areas by accelerating the speed of plantation process adding, the government could not achieve the task alone and people belonging to all walks of life should come forward and play their role in this regard.

He directed the PHA to grow ornamental plants and other saplings at the median of the G.T.Road from Swan to T- Chowk.
