Claudia's always sew emotional; THE GREAT BRITISH SEWING BEE (9pm BBC Two) Pick of The laudia'sDay.

CLAUDIA Winkleman's default-setting of blind, over-the-top enthusiasm reaches giddy new heights tonight in the Make Do And Mend task. When she hears what one contestant is making her shocked gasp, "ARE YOU?!" might lead you to think that Heather plans to turn a man's tweed suit into Pippa Middleton's bridesmaid's dress. The real answer: "a little top" is slightly less jaw-dropping.

It's the quarter finals and Sewing Bee is going vintage, and while the appearance of some 1930s Singer sewing machines in the sewing room brings back happy memories for some contestants, they strike panic into the hearts of others. Because, while shabby chic might be very fashionable when it comes to retro furniture and home decoration, it definitely doesn't apply to clothing.

But with just five contestants left, there's a real spirit of co-operation in the sewing room, and May Martin and Patrick Grant are more like old friends now than scary judges.

The final challenge to construct a vintage coat produces some pretty stunning results - but only one of them comes with a collar that's designed to stop the wearer from being garrotted.
