Clattenburg won't ref Blues again.

Byline: ALAN BIGGS

MARK CLATTENBURG is ready to turn his back on Chelsea and may never referee his accusers again.

The referee's colleagues doubt the hurt from his month-long ordeal will ever heal sufficiently for him to take charge of the London club's matches.

Former Premier League referee Clive Wilkes said: "From what I've heard, Mark wouldn't want to referee Chelsea again."

Wilkes also wants Chelsea called to account for the distress caused to Clattenburg after he was accused of making racist comments to John Obi Mikel. The FA decided the referee had no case to answer.

"The FA say the allegation was made in good faith but what does that mean?" said Wilkes.

"I'm concerned there doesn't seem to be any punishment for the club. Even more importantly, an apology has not been forthcoming from Chelsea. "Time can be a healer but from what I'm hearing, it would be a long time before he would want to referee that lot. A man's career and livelihood could have been ruined so this can't be just dropped."

Wilkes has also accused Clattenburg's bosses of failing to speak up for him. Mike Riley, boss of the Professional Game Match Officials, made no comment other than to explain why Clattenburg had been stood down in the interim - until finally breaking cover after his man was cleared.

Wilkes added: "For PGMO not to defend Mark is ridiculous. The problem is you are only hearing one side of the story."
