Pole vault: Garrett Hitz of Prairie City is the leader of the pack at 13 feet this year.
Long jump: The competition is wide open, with four jumpers within 5 inches of one another from 20-5 to 20-0.
Triple jump: Reagan Shira of Adrian has the potential to be the high scorer of the meet. He has the top long jump at 43-1/2 and is the defending state champion.
High jump: Greg Chandler of Harper, Ian Hickey of Pacific and Crane's David Steeves are the only three to have cleared 6 feet.
Shot put: Ellis Rager, South Wasco County, is the favorite by three feet.
Discus: Morgan Hirrs of North Clackamas Christian is first at 133-0.
Javelin: Dylon Tankersley of Mitchell/Spray is the defending state champion and holds an 8-foot advantage on second.
100: Defending champion Joel Baeza of Life Christian will try to fight off a strong field that includes Chase Walker of Adrian, who comes in with the same time.
200: South Wasco's Loreto Morelli is the defending champion but this year is seeded seventh.
400: Bryson Shira of Adrian is the defending champion, but Morelli will be a strong challenger.
800: Brandt Bergeron of St. Stephen's and Tony Weaver of Southwest Christian are 1-2.
1,500: Aaron Lane of Southwest Christian, brother of last year's champion Trevor Lane, will try to keep the title in the family, but St. Stephen's runner Brandt Bergeron has the top time by 2 seconds.
3,000: Daniel Schanz of Crosshill Christian comes in with a time 12 seconds faster than second.
110 high: Reagan Shira, Adrian, and Greg Chandler, Harper, highlight a top three that are with 0.03 seconds of each other.
300 intermediate: Shira could get the hurdles sweep like Lowell's Austin McNichols last year. Shira's seed time is 1 second faster than second.
4X100: Camas Valley is the top relay team with a time of 45.16.
4X400: Three teams in South Wasco, Southwest Christian and Pacific are all within 1 second, making for perhaps a competitive final event to the two-day meet under the lights.
Adrian won a year ago and has the horses to repeat. Southwest Christian and South Wasco County all have athletes to pose a championship threat as well.
