Clarion's golden jubilee of sound.

MOUNT Everest was being conquered for the very firsttime, but some 50 years ago, a group of Japanese engineers had their own mountain to climb.

They were determined to secure their place in the history books by devising the first radio to be installed in a car.

It became known as ICE in-car entertainment and in doing so, Clarion triggered a revolution that has gone from a primitive one-button wonder to theatre-like experience from your dashboard.

Clarion GB have chosen something radical to celebratethe golden milestone, unveiling their latest audio concept, based on the Suzuki Wagon R.

The stunning one-off concept shows just how far in-car entertainment has developed from those early days.

More than pounds 20,000 has been spent on the transformation, which will shortly be shown at Suzuki dealers.

At the heart of the canary yellow and black sound machine is a 600-watt ghettoblaster. The specialist installation involved a barrage of high-power amplifers being housed alongside a multimedia, radio, CD and DVD arsenal in the dashboard.

Just the doofer to play your Pop Idol Christmas disc on ...
