Civil Defence role in protecting citizens hailed.

CIVIL Defence's role in protecting lives and property was saluted yesterday by Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

He visited the General Directorate of Civil Defence, where he was welcomed by Public Security chief Major-General Tariq Al Hassan and the director general of Civil Defence.

The visit was part of celebrations marking International Civil Defence Day. The minister thanked Civil Defence personnel for their sincere efforts to protect lives and property.

He hailed the active response of the Civil Defence in emergencies and follow-up of plans and programmes in combating disasters. The minister stressed that expertise of Civil Defence personnel has improved, and pledge to improve their performance further through training and experiences of other countries.

He highlighted efforts to enhance the sector that include training and utilisation of latest devices and equipment, as well as increasing the number of centres to meet developments in Bahrain.

He affirmed the importance of community partnership concept in fighting fire and reducing accidents.

The director general of Civil Defence hailed the support of the minister and Public Security chief to enhance safety of the public.

The minister was briefed on the future vision to develop Civil Defence and its goals to enhance performance level. He toured the department and learned about firefighting capabilities in buildings and high-rise towers.

He also launched the new vehicles and equipment that were introduced recently to enhance work efficiency.

A citizen thanked the minister and Civil Defence personnel for their efforts to rescue his family members when a fire broke out in their house.

The minister honoured officers and Civil Defence personnel, as well as citizens who helped in firefighting and rescue operations as part of the community partnership concept.
