City songs are sought for archive.

BANDS and musicians are being invited to submit recordings of their work for a collection to be housed in Birmingham Central Library.

The Brum Beats Collection will bang the drum for local talent and serve as a permanent archive of the city's thriving musical scene.

Copies of albums and singles donated will be made available to library users.

Jonathan Goodwin, arts manager at the library, said: "If you'll forgive the expression, it's important that we keep a record of the performers and bands this city produces, both now and in the future.

"Music by its very nature is often ephemeral and transitory. I hope this will provide an accurate and accessible catalogue of Birmingham's bands and the eras in which they played."
