City so much slicker; GROUP H.

Edinburgh ..... . 1 Dunfermline ... . 0 James McDonaugh was bursting with pride after Citizens battled past the Championship Pars.

Daniel Handling netted the late winner for the League Two side.

McDonaugh said: "I am very proud of them after that. I thought we were better in the first half and Dunfermline were better in the second, but we dug in and defended well.

"We had a five-minute spell when we moved the ball better and it was a great goal. For us that's a big achievement."

Neither side were able to get the upper hand of a turgid midfield battle in the first-half.

But City looked like they wanted it more and Alex Harris had an ambitious shot fly just past the post.

Adam Watson looked like City's danger man and had an effort well blocked before a second curler was well saved by Pars keeper Ryan Scully.

Dunfermline improved in the second-half and the introduction of Kyle Turner looked to be the turning point. He quickly tested City keeper Calum Antell before Lewis McCann came close as the Pars looked to press home.

But City won it when Daniel Handling finished off a smart counter-attack with three minutes left.

Dunfermline boss Stevie Crawford said: "We are disappointed to lose the game. We weren't great in the first half but there wasn't much in it, there weren't many chances.

"I didn't see us losing but we just have to dust ourselves down and go again next week."
