A PARADE will make its way through the streets of Coventry to mark Armed Forces Day tomorrow.

Cadets, army reservists and members of the British Legion will be among the 150-strong parade which will march through the city as part of the national celebrations to show support for the men and women of the armed forces.

The public are invited to line the streets and wave Union Jack flags once the procession sets off from Holy Trinity Church at 12.15pm.

This will follow a service of thanksgiving at 11am which will be led by the Rev David Mayhew, vicar of Holy Trinity Church.

The parade will head in to Broadgate where it will circle the city centre square before a salute will be taken by the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Coun Hazel Noonan, in front of the Lady Godiva statue.

This will be followed by the Warwickshire Band of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers doing an afternoon concert and sing-along at around 12.30pm until 2.15pm, also in Broadgate.

To support Armed Forces Day, Coventry Transport Museum will be displaying a rare lorry - the last surviving Maudsley subsidy chassis of the First World War in the world.

The race is currently on to bring the rare piece of First World War engineering history back to life in time for the centenary celebrations in August. Coun Noonan said: "Armed Forces Day is there for us to show our support to those people currently serving our country and their families.

"The day is also a way of celebrating war veterans and their contribution to our society.

"The day allows us all to come together in a positive atmosphere to show our on-going appreciation for those whom continue to serve and show loyalty to our country."

A fun day with fund-|raising stalls also takes place at the Old Eds RFC ground in Weddington Road, Nuneaton, from 10.30am tomorrow, while a parade including the Royal Signals Regiment and ex-servicemen will march through Bulkington from 6.30pm on Sunday.
