Police arrest man in morning car chase

An early morning car chase in Eugene on Saturday landed one man in jail and another with drug charges, police said.

An attempted traffic stop around 1 a.m. turned into a pursuit that began downtown and wended through the Whiteaker and River Road areas. Eugene police briefly lost track of the vehicle but then spotted it again before the driver stopped the car and ran. Community members pointed police toward a mobile home trailer on Ruby Lane.

Police found Matt Scott Elliott, 29, hiding inside. He was arrested without incident and charged with possession of methamphetamine, theft, interfering with police, attempting to elude and reckless driving.

A second man man in the trailer, Nicholas Nakai Teeman, 23, was charged with hindering prosecution and drug offenses.

Board to honor California legislator

Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California will receive the Wayne Morse Integrity in Government award today at 3 p.m. at the University of Oregon Law School.

The award, presented by the Wayne Morse Historical Park Board, goes to an elected official who demonstrates political courage, integrity and independence. The award honors the late Sen. Morse of Oregon.

Lee, a Democrat, was selected after casting the lone vote against going to war following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Today's event is free and will include remarks by Lee.


Domestic dispute results in drug bust

OAKRIDGE - A domestic dispute call early Saturday led to what Oakridge police said is the city's largest methamphetamine bust in two years.

Police said they found a half-ounce of meth, a small amount of Psilocybin mushrooms, pipes, plastic bags and scales at 48417 E. Third Street. The drugs and paraphernalia were discovered after police arrived and were given permission to search the home.

Kerri Albertson, 35, and Andrew Chappell, 30, were both charged with unlawful delivery and possession of controlled substances.
