City's Oktoberfest brewing up 'party of the year'.

BIRMINGHAM is brewing up a taste of Bavaria as it celebrates its own version of Oktoberfest for a third year.

Set in a huge 'Bier Tent' in Cannon Hill Park, Edgbaston, Oktoberfest will be a world of lederhosen, dirndl, schnitzel and true German hospitality for thousands of revellers until Sunday.

Visitors will enjoy an Oompah band - playing classic British rock and pop songs - and organisers have even had their own Oktoberfest beer brewed in Bavaria. The director of Oktoberfest, Carsten Raun, said: "It's going to be the party of the year in Birmingham.

"We bring the band, food and beer all the way from Germany so it's really going to be something special.

"Our beer is a wonderful five per cent lager, brewed just for us in Bavarian under German purity laws, so it's fresh and tasty. The tent is decked out in Bavarian colours - blue and white - and the staff dressed in lederhosen and dirndls; you will feel like you're in Munich in the middle of Birmingham."
