Citizens Voice Project aims at advancing good governance: USAID.

ISLAMABAD, November 18, 2011 (Balochistan Times): The US Agency for International Development (USAID) officially launched the Citizens Voice Project to provide resources for Pakistani initiatives that support citizen involvement in advancing good governance throughout the country. The ceremony of the project was held on Thursday here at a local hotel to explain grant application procedures for civil society groups good governance efforts throughout the country. Chairperson of Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability (TDEA) Musarrat Qadeem has said it is an honour for TDEA that the organization has been selected by USAID to implement the project in Pakistan to facilitate the greater citizen involvement in the democratic process and accountability. She said the TDEA would provide the opportunity to community-based organizations and NGOs to come up with their own innovative ideas. The project aimed to empower people and organizations to initiate change from the grass root level, she added. The $45 million project will award approximately 1,000 grants during the next three years 2011-2014, with the first round of applications due December 2, 2011. The project has three main objective areas, which include policy advocacy and government oversight, organizational development and targeted trainings and public private connections among state and non-state actors. The project would award approximately 40 grants to each quarter through a transparent process, where most grants would be $50, 000 to $250, 000 in size. The USAID Pakistan Mission Director Dr. Andrew Sisson was the chief guest at this occasion. Meanwhile, Chief of Party Citizens Voice Project Mukhtar Ahmed Ali, USAID representatives and Citizens Voice staff, civil society and students participated in the national launch ceremony of the project.
