Business Editors & High-Tech Writers

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 2000

Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq:CRUS) today announced it has signed a DVD decoder technology license agreement with LuxSonor Semiconductors Inc., a leading developer of single-chip A/V decoders for DVD and VCD movie players.

The agreement broadens Cirrus Logic's portfolio to now incorporate DVD decoder integrated circuits alongside its market leadership audio products. Cirrus Logic is positioned to capitalize on its existing A/V market leadership position by bringing video technology to its existing audio customers.

Aiming high with field-proven DVD silicon and software, Cirrus Logic intends to accelerate the development of entertainment systems such as DVD equipped A/V mini-systems, digital set-top boxes, A/V digital media controllers and Internet-enabled DVD players (iDVD).

"This technology license allows Cirrus Logic to take advantage of its dominant position in audio chips for consumer electronics providing our customers a single-source solution for both audio and video technology," said Jason Carlson vice president and general manager, Consumer Products/Data Acquisition Division. "Today, we are the most complete one-stop shop for consumer electronic A/V manufacturers."

Technologies included in the complete DVD license are MPEG-2 video decoding, video DSP processing, a 32-bit audio DSP, audio and video DSP software, DVD navigation software and DVD player reference designs. Currently LuxSonor is successfully gaining DVD player market share in China utilizing this technology package.

"Cirrus Logic is rapidly molding these proven technologies into finished products available for design-in later this year," said Terry Ritchie, vice president, DSP technologies at Cirrus Logic. "Our customers are excited about our enhanced ability to use programmable DSPs to help them develop customized DVD audio/video products for the Internet entertainment era."
