Cirronet Unveils Line of Four Wireless I/O Modems; 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz Devices Offer Choice of Relay and Analog/Digital Wireless I/O.

NEW ORLEANS -- Cirronet(TM) Inc., a leading provider of wireless industrial and OEM products, introduced a line of four HopNet wireless I/O modems today at the ENTELEC Conference in New Orleans. The product line includes the HNIO-091R and HNIO-241R relay modems, which operate at 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz respectively, and the 900 MHz NHIO-091A and 2.4 GHz HNIO-241A analog/digital modems.

Cirronet's new wireless I/O modems feature bidirectional transmission and employ the company's patented frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology, known for its superior ability to deliver critical data regardless of environment or conditions. Systems integrators can choose the I/O modem best suited to their applications, with the assurance of thoroughly secure and reliable communications - even when little intelligence resides on either end of the link. The relay modems provide four 250VAC 5A relays, and the analog/digital modems provide two 4-20mA receivers and transmitters along with two digital I/O channels.

"The term 'wireless I/O' covers a broad range of applications, and even the simplest can be absolutely mission-critical," said Tim Cutler, Cirronet's vice president of marketing and OEM/industrial sales. "At a water supply pumping station, for example, the signal that controls the front gate can be just as important as the signal that relays a process alarm. In all cases, we offer the most meaningful replacement for a cable, with no compromise in certainty."

Unlike wireless data transceivers, for which Cirronet is also well-known, wireless I/O modems transmit voltage or digital signals rather than serial data streams. Analog/digital models are typically used to relay key levels of sensor data, while relay units control the state of such equipment as light fixtures, alarms and locks. Line of sight range extends beyond 20 miles for the 900 MHz I/O modems and up to seven miles for the 2.4 GHz units, depending upon the antenna used. The modems can operate over an input voltage range of +9Vdc to +30Vdc, making them suitable for battery and solar power sources. Class I Div 2 certification allows the modems to be deployed in hazardous locations. All are DIN-rail mountable.

Evaluation units of all four Cirronet wireless I/O modems are available immediately, with products slated for general availability in Q2 2005. Pricing will range from $795 for internal radio models to $895 for external radio models.
