CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 19, 2001

Arula Systems Inc. Monday announced that Pointe-Claire, Quebec-based Cinet, a value-added distributor focused on offering cost-effective hardware and software solutions for network and Internet connectivity, has joined the Arula Certified Distributor Network.

Cinet serves VARs, resellers, system integrators, service providers and consulting firms across Canada. With Cinet, customer relationships are always a high priority. To this end, Cinet works with manufacturers who share a common vision of high customer satisfaction to deliver product offerings that meet that vision.

Meeting all customer expectations, from product and technical training to Web site facilities, with personal and friendly service is Cinet's most important goal.

"Our commitment to meeting and exceeding our customers' needs leads us to join the Arula Certified Distributor Network," said Andy Catarau, chief executive officer and president of Cinet. "The Arula product suite, as well as the Arula Universal Agent Platform, will give our customers a level of secure remote network management that will meet and exceed their business needs."

"We are pleased to be adding such a leading value-added distributor to the Arula Certified Distributors network," said Chandra Venkatraman, founder, CEO and president of Arula Systems. "With a savvy distributor like Cinet offering the Arula product suite in Canada, our Canadian customers will now receive an unmated level of service to go with the outstanding secure remote network management products they are getting."

The Arula Certified Distributor Network

The Arula Certified Distributor Network is a network of value-added resellers specially selected to help introduce companies to the cost-effective and easy-to-deploy Arula Universal Agent Platform (AUAP). Through the Arula product suite, based on the AUAP, distributors' customers now have the ability to add secure remote network management capabilities to network devices.

Because management is browser based via the AUAP, companies can extend their management capabilities without adding more IT staff. Further distributors will be able to show companies how they can use the AUAP to monitor, control and roll out new applications to their devices, extending the life of their devices.

Arula Certified Distributors also enjoy benefits such as co-marketing assistance and bonus programs. To find out more about the Arula Certified Distributor Network, go to

The Arula Universal Agent Platform

The Arula Product Suite is built on the Arula Universal Agent Platform.

Arula has taken a radically new approach to providing remote device management agents. Rather than providing individual agent platforms, Arula has developed a universal agent platform that enables companies to rapidly deploy agent solutions for any device in their remote offices. The Arula Universal Agent Platform contains all the common things an agent would need such as connectivity, logic and security.

The Arula Universal Agent Platform thus enables development of hardware and software management solutions that allow an electronic device to be rapidly and securely controlled from any Web browser. It provides a robust environment for implementing strong security encryption, like Secure Socket Layer (SSL).

To develop a specific agent is then an easy task for Arula, any third party, or the customer, because only the device-specific logic needs to be added. As a result, companies can easily extend the Arula Universal Agent Platform to any devices in a simple and economical way.

The Arula Product Suite

Three products make up the current Arula product suite:
-- Arula SecureConsole - the first product from Arula, SecureConsole, allows
any IT manager to plug a device into it and then securely manage it from his
base of operations. SecureConsole provides remote console access as well as
multi-user capabilities, all on an extensible thin micro-Web server platform.

-- Arula SecureConsoleSSL - adds Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 128-bit encryption
to the SecureConsole appliance.

-- Arula Cerebus x8 - the newest addition to the Arula product suite, it
provides the same level of security as the SecureConsoleSSL, but is capable of
managing up to eight devices in a rack mountable 2U chassis. Cerebus x8 has
been designed with the data center in mind.
