Cinema: HEAD TO head - MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY & COLIN FARRELL.

The wild boys of film are competing for the top spot with two totally different movies this week. Irish hunk Colin Farrell is starring in the tense thriller Phone Booth, while Matthew McConaughey appears in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. Coincidentally, both are the sons of professional footballers, but which is the better sport?

MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY

AGE: 33

KICK OFF: Matthew seemed destined to follow in the footsteps of his father, who was a professional American footballer, until he was bitten by the acting bug. In 1988, he left his hometown of Uvalde, Texas, and went to study film at the University of Texas. 7/10

SCORING TECHNIQUE: In the past he has dated Sandra Bullock and Ashley Judd, but has yet to find the right girl to settle down with. It seems he's simply far too

busy having fun with the boys. In 1999, he was arrested after police found him playing the bongos naked. 6/10

POST-MATCH ANALYSIS: His first major role was in The Return Of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1994) alongside Renee Zellweger. Two years later he landed the lead in A Time To Kill. Despite plenty of hype, his career has been patchy. Recent films include Amistad (1997) and The Wedding Planner (2001). 6/10

VERDICT: 19/30 Matthew is a good sport, but not really a serious player.

COLIN FARRELL

AGE: 26

KICK OFF: Dublin-born Colin is the son of former footballer Eamon Farrell, who played for Shamrock Rovers, but Colin's talent was on the stage rather than the pitch. After attending Dublin's Gaiety School of Drama, he starred in the BBC series Ballykissangel. 6/10

SCORING TECHNIQUE: Women practically fall at his feet. Colin's marriage to actress Amelia Warner lasted just months and model Kim Bordenave is expecting his first child. 9/10

POST-MATCH ANALYSIS: He starred in Tigerland (2000), then Ordinary Decent Criminal (2000). Played second fiddle to Tom Cruise in Minority Report (2002), but takes the lead in his latest film Phone Booth. Hollywood bosses seem to love his bad boy ways and see him as one of the hottest talents around. 9/10

VERDICT: 24/30 Watch out, ladies, this boy certainly boasts some enviable ball skills and isn't afraid to use them.
