Cine Expo, a prelude to Cine Asia?

The second annual Cinema Expo Intl. event that unfolded in Brussels, was attended by a record number of European exhibitors along with U.S. distributors. Essentially sponsored by Coca Cola, the show featured 160 booths along with screenings for major films not yet released on the Continent.

Cinema Expo Intl., is modelled along the lines of Show East in Atlantic City. Not only a market, it also features panel discussion on industry issues and gives out awards.

This year, Michael Williams Jones, president of United Intl. Pictures, was honored as Distributor of Year; Steven Spielberg collected his second Lifetime Achievement Award; Charles Sheen walked away with the acting honors; and German director Wolfgang Peterson won an award.

Cinema Expo screenings took place at the Canapolis complex and included Jurassic Park, Hot Shots II, etc.

Cinema Expo's organizers now have their sights set on a similar event in Asia, to be called Cine Asia. It'll be a show combining film and video products and is scheduled for Singapore, probably in 1995.
