AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL/HSYK LAW: A Turkey expert with the human rights advocacy group Amnesty International (AI) has said the Ankara government is perceived as trying to cover up "possible" violations of the law committed by high-ranking figures with the help of recent changes to the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) rushed through Parliament in a session that stretched from Friday into Saturday. He called the move "something incredibly dangerous."

KAZAKH COMPOSER SUES AK PARTY: Kazakh singer Arslanbek Sultanbekov, the composer of the song "Dombyra" -- which is currently the Justice and Development Party's (AK Party) local elections campaign song, has expressed his discontent over not having been asked permission by the party to use the song as well as it being used for political purposes.

IMF INDIA REPORT: ndia has restored macroeconomic and financial stability, but structural impediments to growth and persistently high inflation remain key concerns, the IMF says in its annual report on the state of the Indian economy.

SELF IMMOLATION ATTEMPT: A family tried to immolate itself in the high security area near Parliament House in New Delhi today. The police however foiled the attempt and arrested the man along with his two children from the Vijay Chowk area. He was whisked away from the venue in a police van.

INSTRUMENT INSTALLATION IN SPACE: This video shows a time-lapse of the install of the James Webb Space Telescope's Mid-Infrared Instrument in a clean room at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. The actual installation took about four hours.

GPM ENCAPSULATION COMPLETE: The Global Precipitation Measurement Core Observatory is scheduled to launch on Feb. 27 (EST) from Tanegashima Space Center, Japan. GPM is a joint mission between NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. The Core Observatory will link data from a constellation of current and planned satellites to produce next-generation global measurements of rainfall and snowfall from space.

ELDERLY MAN KILLED IN ACCIDENT: An elderly pedestrian who was hit by a military vehicle has died. The accident happened early Friday morning when the 60-year-old was reportedly trying to cross the road instead of using an overpass which was 50 meters away.
