Churchill edges Springfield girls.

Melissa Penwell won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, and Tamara Starodubsteva took first in the triple jump and 1,500 as visiting Churchill narrowly edged Springfield 69-68 in a Midwestern League girls track and field dual meet on Wednesday.

Andrea Nelson was the only double winner for the Millers, with victories in the 200 and 400.

Emmy Greatwood (discus, javelin), Brooke Barker (shot put, 200), Paige Ford (100, 100 hurdles) and Niki Dentel (400, high jump) won two events each for Sheldon as the visiting Irish dominated their dual meet against Lebanon, 120-25.

Sheldon swept the field events and won both relays. Ashley Adams picked up wins for the Warriors in the 800 and 1,500.

Thurston recorded victories in 13 events to cruise past host Willamette, 96-49.

Tiffany Gibson (1,500 and 3,000), Jessica Cardwell (javelin and shot put) and Jenna Willis (400 and 300 hurdles) had multiple wins for the Colts, while Denise Hill led the Wolverines with wins in the high jump and triple jump.

Elmira won nine individual events and one relay to edge Junction City 79 1/2 -74 1/2 in a Sky-Em League meet at Junction City that also included Pleasant Hill (26 points).

Kathryn Billharte (shot put, discus), Margo Meyer (200 and 400 meters) and Ariel Johnson (100 hurdles and 300 hurdles) were all multiple winners for the Falcons.

Boys

Churchill's strong showing on the track lifted it to an 82-63 victory at Springfield in a Midwestern League boys track and field dual meet on Wednesday.

The Lancers won six individual track events and both relays, while garnering victories in 12 of 17 events overall.

The Lancers' Gus Cuneo won the 300 hurdles to go along with wins in the 100 by Sol Rexius, 200 by Caleb Rexius, 400 by Kyle Chown, 800 by Paul Meshnick and 1,500 by Sean Wilson.

Travis Ramme posted wins in the 100 and 200 meters, and Sheldon rolled past Lebanon, 93-52.

Jullion Saaiman won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles for the Irish, and Heath Smith led the Warriors with victories in both the discus and shot put.

Carlos Aguilar's wins in the javelin and discus, and Jordan Young's victories in the 100 and 200 meters helped push Willamette past visiting Thurston, 77-68.

Brant Proden was strong in the middle distances for the Colts, scoring wins in the 800 and 1,500, and Brett Josephson added wins in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Brandon Nystrum won the 200 and 400 meters to lead Junction City (101 1/2 points) past visiting Elmira (49 1/2 ) and Pleasant Hill (29) in a Sky-Em League meet at Junction City.

Pleasant Hill's Brian Kramer was the day's top individual performer, recording wins in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Steve Cushing won the shot put and discus for Elmira.
