A FATHER has died playing football for a Huddersfield church team.

Brian Wood, 57, from Preston, died after collapsing with a heart attack while playing football for New North Road FC in the Yorkshire Christian Football League on Saturday.

His son Daniel, 29, the team coach, is a member of the New North Road Baptist Church.

Mr Wood, a father-of-three, had no history of ill health.

His wife Lynne, 52, said: "It has all come as such a shock.

"He was such an active and busy person and was in good health.

"The word that keeps coming up when we talk about him is 'passionate'.

"He was passionate about many things, including his love of football. He was always busy and passionate about life."

Mr Wood was a retired safety adviser who worked at British Nuclear Fuels in Salwick, near Preston. He played for the church team where his son Daniel is a youth worker.

The grandfather-of-one also worked with local youth groups and ran a Preston church kid's club.

He leaves children Daniel, 29, Megan, 27, and Kathryn, 22.

His funeral will take place in Preston on September 13.
