Church man is facing sex claims.

A BAPTIST Church minister who trained and preached in South Wales has been arrested in the USA on child sex charges Robert Dando, 46, has been charged with four counts of aggravated sexual battery and is currently in detention in Fairfax Detention Centre, Virginia, pending a court appearance next month. The charges relate to historic abuse over a five-year period, of two boys, which dates back 13 years.

Mr Dando, who resigned from his current role at Worcester Park Baptist Church in London, graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity in theology at University of Wales, Cardiff, it has been revealed.

Married Mr Dando, of Sherbrooke Way, Worcester Park, was also an Associate Minister at Ararat Baptist Church, between 1988 and 1990.

Lead minister at Ararat, Dave Hibbin said: "It was with deep sadness and shock that we received the news that Robert Dando is being held at the Fairfax Detention Centre, Virginia facing charges of child sex abuse in the USA. Robert came to Ararat on a two to three-year student placement while training at the South Wales Baptist College in the mid-1980s.

"After he was ordained at his home church in Swansea, he joined the ministerial team here as Associate Minister on a part-time basis."

Mr Dando, was also a volunteer with the Boys' Brigade, is next due before Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on September 23.
