Chronicle unveil new betting terminal.
CHRONICLE BOOKMAKERS will unveil their new state of the art LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) betting terminal at Punchestown today, which combines live television pictures and a betting platform on the same standard size pitch board, writes Brian Fleming.
Company boss Justin Carthy is looking forward to the new innovation and said it is the start of the way things will eventually look in the betting ring.
He said yesterday: "We sourced this new technology in Hong Kong and built it around our requirements and we'll be able to show races and display prices at the same time.
"We can split the screen depending on what we want to watch and we can have it as a plasma screen or just a normal betting board, so it should be good for watching the racing from England, for example, as well as looking at the home meeting."
Today will be the first time in Ireland or Britain such a screen will be on show and the prospects of accepting 'bets in running' could also be possible, said Carthy.
"We're going to have a look at that and we might go into it but I'm not sure the demand would be there, bar at the likes of Galway and the big festivals.
"Some punters might bet the 1-5 going to the second last all, so we might take our chance yet."
The new board will require a CCTV feed and Carthy added: "This is where things are going with new technology and hopefully the trial run will work well at Punchestown and we can take it from there."
