Christmas memorial concert at chapel.

A CHRISTMAS memorial service will be held in Cardiff this weekend. The annual service takes place at the Wenallt Chapel at Thornhill Crematorium at 2pm on Sunday. Everyone is welcome to attend to pay their respects and join in remembering their loved ones during this Christmas period.

The service, conducted by Reverend Lionel Fanthorpe, will contain a number of readings, poems and carols. Deborah Morgan Lewis will be leading the singing.

During the service a collection in aid of 2Wish Upon a Star will be held.

The charity raises funds to improve bereavement support for parents after losing a child suddenly and traumatically.

They aim to ensure every A&E department in South Wales has a suitable bereavement suite for bereaved relatives, that bereavement boxes are available for parents at each of these hospitals and that immediate bereavement support is available for parents and siblings.

They also aim to provide a professional counselling service for bereaved parents as well as staff support and training.

This Christmas for a minimum donation of PS2, Bereavement Services at Cardiff council will be selling memorial tags in memory of a loved one which can be placed on one of the Christmas Memorial Trees in the Wenallt Chapel Courtyard.

The trees will be placed from Friday and will remain in situ until January 5 when they will be removed in keeping with Twelfth Night tradition. All donations received will be in support of 2Wish Upon a Star.

The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor David Walker, who will be in attendance at the service, said: "Losing a loved one is always difficult but the Christmas period can be particularly hard to deal with. This service offers an opportunity for the bereaved to join with others in respectful memory of those that have passed."
