Christmas comes early at the zoo.

CHRISTMAS came early at Bristol Zoo Gardens as Santa distributed gifts to residents.

While an electronic tablet or some sparkling jewellery might be at the top of some Christmas lists, recipients at the zoo appeared more than happy with some tasty treats.

The zoo's raccoons, Kea parrots and lemurs were given presents full of their favourite foods.

Rocky the raccoon jumped into the box like an excited child, while Trevor the red-ruffed lemur sniffed at a red and gold wrapped present.

John Partridge, senior curator of animals, said: "The stockings and presents are more than just festive decoration, they are also a seasonal take on our normal forms of enrichment, encouraging the animals to hunt and forage for their food, making dinner time even more exciting."
