Choral fiesta tomorrow.
The occasion is the 9 th UAE Choir Festival, which will resonate with choral renditions of both traditional and contemporary composers. Three CSI church parishes will take part.
The choir festival highlights vocalised harmony, where rhythmic and tonal effects are brought out by the vocals themselves, without instrumental accompaniment. The choirs led by Sam Abraham from Abu Dhabi, Mathew Philip of the Dubai parish and Sunil Abraham along with Moncy Cherian have been practising for the big event since January.
Selections include musical renderings of contemporary composers such as Graham Kendrick and Michael Hudson, English hymns patronised through centuries, and Malayalam lyrical compositions of noted South Indian composers like Sadhu Kochukunju Upadeshi and Mosa Valsalom. Rt. Rev. Thomas Samuel, Bishop of the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese, will be the chief guest, and will lead the Divine Service prior to the festival.
The musical fiesta will begin at 8am. A 75-member committee chaired by Rev George Mathew, vicar of CSI Parish in Sharjah, and convened by Ebby Abraham have co-ordinated the programme.
