Chopping logs the high tech way.

Chopping Logs The High Tech Way

Bean Lumber Co. in Glenwood has just completed a new saw mill, which is equipped with a multimillion dollar, state-of-the-art laser and photocell guided blade making it the most modern saw mill in the country, according to company spokesman Harris Kimbell.

The result? The same amount of lumber can be produced from 25 percent fewer trees.

At full capacity of two shifts a day, the revamped mill can turn out 500,000 board feet per day. It has already been written up in three national magazines dealing with the lumber industry and another article is scheduled.

Bean operates three companies in Arkansas that employ 700 people with gross revenues of $125 million and an annual payroll of $15 million.
