Chinese web services company Baidu creates digital eyewear.
India, April 4 -- Baidu Inc., China's largest search engine, has begun development on its own version of Google Glass, the tentatively titled 'Baidu Eye', as reported by Sina.com.
The website further states that the Baidu Eye will have functions like LCD display, voice-controlled image recognition and bone-conduction technology. Functions like making phone calls and web searches will be voice activated, and photos can be taken and sent using gestures, similar to the functioning of the Google Glass.
Baidu is planning to develop the 'Eye' on an open platform to allow developers to create applications for the device, and they will also be outsourcing the manufacturing of the gadget.
Kaiser Kuo, Baidu's spokesman.has said that it has not yet been finalized whether the product will ever be commercialized, and has said that they will continue experimenting with "every kind of technology that is related to search "
Earlier reports of Baidu working with Qualcomm to extend the battery life of the 'Eye' have been stated as erroneous by Kuo and have been thought to be a result of an April fool's joke "gone awry".
