China: The Chinese Ministry of Commerce launched a national campaign to reform the processing and circulation of food in order to improve quality and ensure safety, which would benefit people's health as well as increase agriculture product exports. The major problem stems from the fact that most farm produce originates from individual farmers and workshops, where very little monitoring can take place. Major initiatives of the new campaign include reducing the pesticide residue in agriculture products, setting standards on animal feed sanitation and using additives for genetic modified products.
