China allays fears it seeks hegemony in area of influence.

Beijing, Sept. 28 ( ANI ): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed that China is committed to pursue peaceful development, dissolving the concerns that a stronger and more prosperous China might seek hegemony.

Wang, while delivering his speech at the general debate of the 68th UN General Assembly, said that as China has enjoyed fast development over the years, some are concerned that it will repeat the beaten track and seek hegemony.

He insisted that China will stay firmly on the path of peaceful development and what happened earlier cannot be applied indiscriminately to today's China.

According to China Daily, Wang recalled former leader Deng Xiaoping's declaration, nearly 40 years ago, that China would never seek hegemony in the world.

The Foreign Minister further called on other countries to embark on peaceful path like China to uphold world peace.

He further reiterated that China will firmly safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity and resolutely uphold its legitimate and lawful rights and interests, while cooperating on the international level. ( ANI )
