The Swedish telecommunications systems provider Ericsson has won a second broadband metropolitan area network (MAN) contract from China Netcom.

Under the new contract Ericsson will deliver its AXI 540-7 Edge Routers to seven additional cities in China - Wuhan, Changsha, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Foshan, Dongguan and Shunde in GuangDong. The company will also supply Extreme's Black Diamond and Summit 48i Ethernet switches and provide implementation, training and maintenance services.

The AXI 540-7 Edge Router will perform aggregation of traffic to China Netcom's Internet backbone using a 32-port channelised T1/E1 forwarding engine. The routers will utilise new Gb Ethernet interfaces to connect to Extreme's Black Diamond switches, which will be connected to the China Netcom IP core.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.
