China : Nanjing Yangtze BASF neopentyl glycol production capacity will be expanded.

On December 20, reporters learned that Sinopec and BASF will expand their neopentyl glycol (NPG) production capacity in Nanjing. The unit is located in an integrated production base operated by Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF Co., Ltd., a joint venture company. The plant will be put into operation in 2015 with an annual capacity of 40,000 tons. After its expansion, its production capacity will double to reach 80,000 tons per annum and the expansion plant is expected to drive by 2020.

It is reported that, NPG is a unique polyol product, due to its high chemical and thermal stability, widely used in powder coatings, textiles and construction industries. It is also an important raw material for the production of polyester fiber resins. Polyester fiber resins are widely used in the production of coatings, unsaturated polyester resins, alkyd resins, lubricants and plasticizers.
