China : Acer founder urges for public support, encouragement of Hon Hai Group.

The founder of Acer yesterday urged the general public to show support for the Hon Hai Group, which has come under fire over several suicides by its employees in China.

Stan Shih, who founded the computer giant in Taiwan, said Hon Hai, under the leadership of Terry Gou, has emerged as the world's top contract maker of electronic products.

Hon Hai has contributed much to the industrial and social development in Taiwan, and the nation should show its support and encouragement, Shih said in a press statement.

Shih claimed the press has failed to give balanced coverage of the recent incidents affecting Hon Hai, putting all blame on the company.

Hon Hai, which makes electronics products for Apple and other brand name vendors, last week expressed frustration at being called the shame of Taiwan and hinted that it might stop investing in the island.
