China, Costa Rica Seal economic deals during Xi's visit.

PEKyN (CyHAN)- The governments of China and Costa Rica signed Monday a series of economic and coorperation agreements during the visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping in the Central American country, dpa reported.

"Relations between our two nations are still young, but they are intensive and fruitful," Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla said after meeting with Xi in San Jose.

Costa Rica recognized Taiwan rather than China until 2007 but then switched.

China agreed to support construction of a new Costa Rican police academy with around 16 million dollars and granted the country a preferential loan of 400 million dollars for a further infrastructure project.

Further deals included the export of Costa Rican pork to China as well as cooperation in the banking sector.

Xi is immersed in his first trip to Latin America and the Caribbean as Chinese president, which has already taken him to Trinidad and Tobago. On Tuesday he is to travel to Mexico, and he is scheduled to meet US President Barack Obama in California over the weekend. (Cihan/Ria Novosti)
