Chiller theater.

Judging by the rhetoric rolling around the budding GOP prez primary, the strategy of most of the candidates is to drop a dose of good ol' fear into the come-on to voters.

But if there's a fear primary the way there's a money primary, the hands-down winner has to be Ted Cruz, the Texas senator and child-scarer.

TC, speaking to an eager crowd of about 100 folks at Turbocam in Barrington the other day, didn't disappoint with his give-the-folks-the-willies shtick.

After going on out about how the US was dangerously close to reaching "the point of no return" and "if we go four or eight more years on this path, we risk losing the greatest country in the history of the world," TC added:

"The Obama economy is a disaster, Obamacare is a train wreck, and the Obama-Clinton foreign policy of leading from behind --the whole world is on fire."

To which a puzzled and, at the very least, alarmed, 3-year-old Julia Trant of Londonderry (sitting in the front row, BTW), blurted out, "The world is on fire?"

Uncle Ted at first responded: "The world is on fire. Yes! Your world is on fire." And then, perhaps realizing he had cameras on him, or perhaps even that he had started a little girl, added: "But you know what? Your mommy's here and everyone's here to make sure the world you grow up in is better."

To which you might add: If everyone's here to make the world a better place, then how are we at the point of no return?

Just saying.
