Chilectra launches 800 MVA El Salto substation.

(SeeNews) - Nov 14, 2012 - Chilean power distributor Chilectra launched the 800 MVA El Salto substation in the northern metropolitan area of Santiago city yesterday after a two-year upgrade of the substation that cost USD 11 million (EUR 8.6m), the company said.

El Salto is now the largest distribution substation in Chile capable of servicing nearly four million residents which will benefit Santiago, Las Condes, Vitacura, Lo Barnechea, Providencia and other municipalities.

Chilectra, a subsidiary of Enersis (SCL:ENERSIS), services 33 municipalities in the Santiago Metropolitan region.

Last week the company submitted an environmental impact declaration to double the capacity of the Chena substation to 800 MVA which is estimated to cost USD 13 million.
