Children hurt in attack by dog.

TWO children have been attacked by a dog as they walked on a beach.

The children, aged six and four, were walking with their grandmother when they were attacked by a dog which was being walked without a lead.

The incident happened on Marine Drive beach at the Headland in Hartlepool on Friday between 4pm and 5pm.

One of the children was bitten and the other suffered scratches and minor injuries and both required hospital treatment.

Police want to identify the dog and its owner.

The owner is described as a white male, of heavy build, around 50 years old with a local accent and with a ruddy complexion.

He was with a woman who was also of heavy build.

The dog is described as thin, of a gingery colour and possibly a greyhound or a whippet with a blue lead and collar.

The owners left with the dog in a silver vehicle, believed to be a Ford Fiesta or a similar car. It is believed that the dog is regularly walked at the location.

Anyone with information on the identity of the owner is asked to call PC Daniel Heron of Hartlepool Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
