Children go to great lengths.

KIND-HEARTED pupils have taken the plunge for charity to raise money for good causes around the world.

Hawthorn High School in Pontypridd holds an annual sponsored swim to raise money over Christmas.

This month, Year Seven pupils dived into the challenge by encouraging their friends and family to sponsor them at a swimathon, where 60 pupils tried to cover as much distance as possible at Hawthorn Leisure Centre.

The children swam for most of the day and will return in the new year to collect the proceeds of their efforts.

The money will be donated to Teds, British Heart Foundation and the Special Baby Care Unit at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, as well as the county's international friends in Mbale, Uganda.
