Children flee house blaze.

THREE youngsters including a three-year-old boy fled to safety from a house fire in Longwood.

The blaze at the home on Rock Street was in a basement room and is thought to have begun in a settee at about 5.30pm on Saturday.

A 20-year-old woman, a teenage boy and the young child all escaped unhurt before firefighters arrived.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus had to go into the house through the living-room and down the cellar steps to get to the fire which they confined to the settee.

The house - which was heavily smoke-logged - is being renovated.

The cause is being investigated but is not thought to be suspicious.
