Chief Kambausuka calls for unity amongst Ovaherero communities.
A senior leader of the OtjikaTjamuaha Royal House (Red Flag Regiment), Mbajoroka Kambausuka called on Ovaherero communities to unite and do away with the on-going fighting amongst themselves irrespective of the group they represent.
Red Flag Day, also known as Otjiserandu Day, marks the remembrance of the life of Chief Samuel Maharero and the great struggle against Germany troops.
Speaking to this News Agency on the side line, Kambausuka said he is calling on all different communities of the Ovaherero communities to unite and treat each other as one family.
Kambausuka said he wants Ovaherero community to be united and do away with divisive instigation.
He added that he does not want the youth to emulate this bad example of divisions by the elders as it does not take them anywhere.
'I wish the young people do not emulate what their elders are doing because they do not know what has transpired between the two factions that led to the division that is now eminent in the community. I wish that everybody especially the young people stay away from that division because is not what we want,' he stated.
Also speaking to Nampa, a 66-year-old, Jacob Maendo who attended the event told this News Agency he feels ashamed of what has transpired between the two Ovaherero people 'fighting' as if they are not one people.
Maendo said he does not see the need for the fighting.
Maendo echoed the same sentiments saying the future generations should not follow a bad example of divisions but preserve the peace the forefathers fought for.
'Where are we heading to? What we need is unity, the two groups need to sit down and discuss the way forward,' he said.
It is alleged that members of the OtjikaTjamuaha Royal House on Thursday attempted to light the holy fire at the premises owned by Ovaherero Traditional Authority (OTA) to commemorate the Red Flag Day in remembrance of Maharero, but they were intercepted by members of OTA who attacked them, destroyed their flag and other properties.
