Chicago's Navy Pier to host EMC Symposium.

A well-blended mix of traditional and innovative experiences comprises the program for the 2005 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility Aug. 8-12 at the Navy Pier in Chicago. In addition to many familiar offerings, the symposium will provide some more unusual opportunities, such as an operating amateur radio station for onsite demonstrations of techniques, and new features for the technical exhibit program.

The traditional technical program on Tuesday (Aug. 9), Wednesday (Aug. 10), and Thursday (Aug. 11) will include presentations covering computational electromagnetics, EMC management, computer modeling, ultrawideband EMC, system susceptibility, EM interference control, signal integrity, shielding effectiveness, and product safety. In its entirety, the five-day schedule features a keynote address, workshops and tutorials, open forums, technical paper sessions, special technical paper sessions, experiments and demonstrations, and computer simulations.

The workshops and tutorials are conducted on Monday (Aug. 8) and Friday (Aug. 12). New on the list of topics is audio-related EMC. On a more nostalgic note, the line-up includes the "Fundamentals of EMC," described by symposium officials as a landmark tutorial initiated 12 years ago in Chicago. To commemorate the Chicago beginning, this year's tutorial will offer a presentation about newer technology related to the EMC discipline.

Enhanced Exhibits Program

In addition to more than 200 booths displaying the products and services of the EMC industry, the Technical Exhibit program has some new features: the New Product Showcase on Tuesday and Wednesday where exhibitors will give short presentations on new products; the Interactive EMC Forum on Thursday afternoon, at which a panel of EMC experts will answer questions submitted by the audience; and the EMC-OPOLY game, in which attendees can fill the spaces on their game cards by visiting exhibitor booths. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
