Chester repeat is on for Memphis.

Byline: Saraband

MEMPHIS Tennessee can become the first horse since St Expedit 11 years ago to notch back-to-back victories in the Boodles Diamond Ormonde Stakes at Chester.

The five-year-old claimed this 13-furlong heat in impressive style as a hot favourite in 2012 and is sure to have his supporters again as he makes his seasonal bow.

Aidan O'Brien's charge has made steady progress in the last couple of seasons, finishing fourth in the English Derby and third in the Irish equivalent back in 2011 when he was used as a pacemaker.

He did not run again after that outing in June, reappearing in this race, and he again led the early exchanges before his rider took a pull to give him a breather before winding up for the finish.

Memphis Tennessee was an easy four-length winner that day, and O'Brien - on the mark with Ruler Of The World on Thursday - decided to roll on to the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, but something was evidently amiss that day as he was in trouble half a mile from home and trailed home a long last.

Off the track since then, Memphis Tennessee starts his campaign here and following last year's win off a similar layoff, there must be every hope he can repeat the track.

Contributer takes a big leap in class for the Dee Stakes after winning a Newbury conditions event last time.

Ed Dunlop's charge won an all-weather maiden at the back end of 2012 but showed he had made plenty of progress over the winter when winning in Berkshire on his return.

The runner-up that day, Cruck Realta, is a decent yardstick but Contributer really impressed with his final kick in the closing stages.
