Chester are admirers of the Fleet.

CHESTER CITY are one of three clubs who have been linked with the prolific goalscorer Stuart Fleetwood, after the 22-year-old striker turned down a new contract from Forest Green Rovers.

Fleetwood, who joined the Gloucestershire outfit 12 months ago then hit 27 goals in the Blue Square Premier, is a free agent after refusing to extend his stay with Rovers.

Brentford and newlypromoted Exeter City are also reportedly showing interest in the striker, but last night City owner Stephen Vaughan was keeping his cards close to his chest.

He said: "We are aware of Fleetwood's availability, and obviously a player of that quality would enhance our squad.

"The player's agent has had discussions with a number of clubs, but at this stage it would be premature to reveal whether we will pursue the matter."

Fleetwood, who has been capped at under-21 level by Wales, started his career with Cardiff City before moving to Hereford United in 2006.

Meanwhile, City are set to loan young defender Sean Newton to Blue Square North club Droylsden. City say this will be the first of a number of temporary transfer deals between the clubs next season.

Chester are not running a reserve team next season and they see this as an ideal solution to give their fringe players competitive league action.

Chester have extended their special May offer for early bird purchases of season tickets until close of business on Monday.

The deal which offers a discount plus a free car park pass, should have finished on May 31.

However, the club's offices won't be open on Saturday, so the offer has been extended until 4pm on Monday to compensate.
