Cheltenham 2003: It pains me to say it, but it's time to lay the champ; Spreads & exchanges; Trading Bureau (Nick Fox) takes a close look at today's spread markets and lay possibilities.
Byline: Nick FoxTODAY'S ADVICE
Spreads and betting exchanges
Lay Best Mate (3.15 Cheltenham) to lose 5pts at up to 3.0.
JUST when it looked safe for spread and exchange layers to go back into the market yesterday, along comes Moscow Flyer to continue the run of setbacks for would-be bookies.
With Pizarro and Keen Leader turned over in the first two races, layers had almost repaired the damage done on day one. But Moscow Flyer, who was traded from 3.9 down to 2.82 and responsible for 64 per cent of the pounds 1.3m exchanged, provided the latest downturn for those trying to nick a few quid online. Incidentally, Betfair yesterday hit a new mark, with the first three races all trading at above the pounds 1m level.
With heavily backed Xenophon adding to layers' gloom in the Coral Cup, it's a relief that so far this column has escaped unscathed from what has become a dream Cheltenham for punters.
Today, reluctantly, it may be time to take on the wonderful Best Mate in the Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup (3.15). There is nothing wrong with the horse, just the price.
At the equivalent of around 2-1 on we get Beef Or Salmon, Hussard Collonges, Commanche Court and the rest against him.
Lay Best Mate at up to 3.0.
Baracouda looks short for the Bonusprint Stayers' Hurdle (2.35), but he looks short every time and has won ten of his last 11.
