TV chef Rachel Allen has told how she fears the worst every time her racing driver son gets behind the wheel.

Lucca, 15, has set his sights on becoming a Formula 1 driver and is currently the Irish champion in Formula 4. Mum of three Rachel said: "It's totally terrifying when he's racing.

I don't enjoy it, I kind of pace around and don't really watch. But when I'm watching other races I really enjoy it for what it is."

The 45-year-old added: "I do look at people who have children who are footballers or cricketers and I say, wow, that would be so calm and lovely. I'd be able to relax and enjoy it.

"It used to be life-threatening but now they have unbelievable safety procedures in place.

"I'd be equally as terrified if he was playing rugby so I try to think of that."

Rachel is joining Marco Pierre White as a critic on TV3's The Restaurant next month. The Dubliner said: "I had been guest judge before and really enjoyed it.

"We get to see the menu early in the day and Marco always guesses whether it's a male or a female.

"We give each dish a score out of five and both mark separately but we always end up with Allen the same result."
