* Castle and Fortress Chillon

Built on a rock on the shores of Lake Geneva, visitors take a voyage into the past through the dungeon made famous by Lord Byron, the sumptuous halls, and the chapel with its frescos from the Middle Ages. The towers and ramparts offer wonderful views over lake and mountains. (www.chillon.ch and www.swisscastles.ch)

* Le Corbusier

Colseaux, Route de Lavaux 21, 1802 Corseaux, (Tel. 021 925 40 11): Designed by Le Corbusier in 1922-1923, for his parents on the shores of lake of Geneva, this house offered a unique departure in its architecture during that period.

* Old town Vevey

Take time to discover the authentic art and handcrafts, the antiques and the food shops in the pedestrian streets next to the lake especially animated in middle August, during the street Artists' Festival.

* Steam Boats

The largest "Belle Epoque" steam boat fleet in Europe. 8 out of 16 boats have paddle wheels. During the summer season--May to September--the boats run continuously so you can easily organise your stopovers at, for example, Chillon castle, the Olympic Museum or the Swiss Vapeur Parc. On the French side, Evian, Thonon and Yvoire are all worth a visit.

* Alimentarium

Food Museum: A Nestle foundation that shows the various aspects of food with lively and interactive manner. The exhibition is divided in four sections: Cook, eat, buy and digest. Other features include a media centre, computer games and audiovisuals as well as a beautiful herb garden that will interest the whole family.

* The Jenisch Museum

A neo-classical inspirited building displaying three important collections: The Fine Arts Museum, the Oskar Kokoschka and the Cantonal Printroom.

* The Museum of Carriages

Av. de Chillon 84, 1820 Territet-Veytaux, (Tel. 021 963 63 35): offers a historical setting of the former "Grand Hotel de Territet". It is the most important private collection of old vehicles from several countries.

* La Clef

At rue du Theatre 1, 1800 Vevey (Tel. 021 921 22 45): Next to the market place in the old town of Vevey, this place is famous for its perch fillets and for the fact that Jean-Jacques Rousseau used to live there.

* Le Pont de Brent

(3 Michelin Star) at Route de Blonay, Brent, (Tel. 021 964 52 30): Situated in a small village above Montreux. Eight minutes by car from Montreux town centre, the restaurant is classy, elegant, hospitable and comfortable. Closed Sunday and Mondays; www.lepontdebrent.ch

* L'Ermitage

Clarens (1 Michelin star), Rue du Lac 75, Montreux-Clarens (Tel. 021 964 44 11) has a most beautiful location right on the lakeside when leaving Montreux towards Vevey. A private Villa, the restaurant also offers some cosy hotel rooms, a garden and a private landing place for motor and sailing boats.

* Auberge du Raisin

(2 Michelin star) at Place del'Hotel-de-Ville 1, Cully (Tel. 021 799 21 31) 15 minutes by car from Lausanne town centre Adolf Blokberger prepares his appetising, spicy dishes for gourmets and serves light Swiss wines with them; www.relaischateaux.com/raisin

* La Terrasse

Ch. du Basset 5, 1802 Corsceaux (Tel. 021 921 31 88) situated above Vevey, in the vineyards with breathtaking views of the lake. This is an old favourite of the late Charlie Chaplin.

Since August 1995, Chocolatier Poyet is specialised in chocolate. The core activities are divided into five business areas: confectionery, chocolates, tea-room, restaurant, and the catering service. The Poyet's speciality is the Charlie Chaplin shoes made of chocolate.

At rue du Marche 1, 1820 Montreux (Tel. 079 212 57 85) is a cosy little venue with a good atmosphere where one can dine, drink and lounge. Situated at the crossroads of The Grand Rue Montreux and the Rue du Marche. Popular among The international and gay community on the Swiss Riviera.

* La Casino Barriere de Montreux

Newly renovated and reopened in the summer of 2003. This plane offers special theme evenings, dinners and never ending gambling. The Casino holds the 'A' licence (grand jeux). Its extraordinary location in the centre of Montreux, just on the bank of the lake attracts guests and visitors from all over Switzerland.

The mysteries of the 'Liboson'

1824 Caux/Montreux (Tel. 021 963 30 19): Yearning for a spiritual experience? The Liboson is the place for you. It is a centre of studies in various points of interest as literature, music and arts. This wooden house is situated in Caux, above Montreux. The owner of the place will be happy to share his views with you and offer you fondue next to the fireplace.

* Saturday 'market'. Vevey

Every Saturday, from early morning till midday locals and guests from the region meet at the great market square of Vevey to buy traditional products as vegetables, meat, cheese, clothes and flowers. From July till August the market sellers wear their traditional costumes and are joined by craftsmen and live music.

* Confiserie Poyet, Vevey

Rue du Theatre 8, 1800 Vevey (Tel. 021 37 37) offers a guided tour and a tasting session by a chocolate craftsman. There are four different types of sessions on offer. www.confiseriepoyet.com
