Cheap As Chips: BARNT GREEN FISH BAR; Hewell Road, Barnt Green VERDICT: ***.

Byline: GRAHAM YOUNG

OUTSIDE this busy parade's well-supported local shop, the half-lit sign effectively said 'Barnt Fish Green Bar'. Ooops!

The existing frying range fits snuggly beneath a staircase next to a rather gaudy clash of yellow and blue tiles.

As for the oddly-cut and satisfyingly thick chips, they were slightly under-seasoned but perfectly acceptable considering the chaos involved in building a sit-in area at the rear.

A satisfying 80p cone, weighing 300g on my in-car scales, suggested onwards and upwards.
