Charity winner at school bake sale.
The money will be directed to Briton Vicky Honar who is raising money for Think Pink Bahrain and the UK-based Women for Women charity, which works to improve the health of women and babies.
The Bahrain-based mother of two hopes to raise more than BD3,000 for the charities when she takes part in a cycling challenge next March.
Ms Honar is one of 100 women who will participate in the 370km cycle ride in Cuba, from March 13 to 22.
To take part, Mrs Honar must raise a minimum of u3,000 (BD2,250).
She hopes to raise a further BD1,000 for Think Pink Bahrain, which is a non-profit initiative launched in 2005 to raise awareness and money in support of breast cancer.
Mrs Honar, 53, previously raised u3,500 (BD2,625) for Women for Women when she took part in a 10-day 390km cycle ride in Delhi, India, in November 2006. She was one of 100 women, including UK television presenter Fern Britton, who took part.
The bake sale was spearheaded by Ms Honar's 11-year-old daughter Persia, who attends St Christopher's School.
Her son Sohrab, 15, who is a student at the St Christopher's Senior School, is also planning to organise fund-raising activities.
The next fund-raiser will be a ceilidh (a Gaelic) dance to be held at Ms Honar's hometown in Fife, Scotland, in August.
Women for Women, chaired by Professor Robert Winston, raises funds, awareness and provides training for research into the causes and treatment of conditions that affect women and their babies, including cancer, miscarriage, genetic diseases, stillbirth, polycystic ovary syndrome, pre-eclampsia, infertility, obstetric cholestasis and brain injury.
The charity operates under the Action for Charity umbrella and the funds raised will be used to extend the research on improving the health of women and babies.
