Charity event in memory of Reece.

THE mother of a baby who died of cot death has thanked all who took part in a fundraising event to mark what would have been her son's second birthday.

Last weekend, scores of supporters attended a sponsored walk and charity evening put on by Charlotte Smith in aid of her son Reece Joe Ramsay Smith.

The 24-year-old has said she was overwhelmed at the support the event, at Lemington Labour Club in Newcastle, received.

She said: "I wanted to thank everyone for their kind donations. In particular the people we would like to thank are BJC Plumbing, A1 Blinds, GBM Products, The Ceramic Experience, Boots and many more local shops and businesses that donated raffle prizes.

"I would also like to thank Millennium Balloons for donating the decorations for the club and Lemington Labour Club for hosting the event." Sixteen-month-old Reece died in his sleep while on holiday in September last year.

And after his death, Charlotte vowed to raise vital research funds for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID), which is leading the way in finding the cause of sudden infant death syndrome.
